A Muslim migrant has been arrested in Italy after allegedly hijacking a school bus with 51 children onboard and setting it on fire. Fortunately, all of the children managed to escape before the bus was engulfed in flames on the outskirts of Milan.

But twelve students were hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries, purely as a precautionary measure, reports La Repubblica. Police named the driver as Ousseynou Sy, a 47-year-old Senegalese migrant.

The “religion of peace” just crashed & burned

Sy said the attack was meant as revenge for migrant deaths in the Mediterranean. Shouting “No-one will survive. Stop the deaths at sea, I’ll carry out a massacre,” according to Milan police spokesman Marco Palmieri. Footage of the incident circulating online shows firefighters dousing the bus, which had been completely gutted by flames, leaving only a charred metal frame.

Sy had allegedly ordered the children’s hands to be bound, and threatened to pour gasoline over them and set them on fire if they didn’t comply with his demands. He rammed other vehicles with the bus as he was stopped by a police blockade. One child managed to call the police, who rushed to the scene and broke the bus windows to get everyone to safety, right before the flames overtook the entire vehicle. Some of the children were treated at a local hospital, mostly for minor cuts and scratches related to the evacuation.

Sy was immediately apprehended, and has been hospitalized for second degree burns resulting from the fire he started. Police said he had previous convictions, but did not specify further details on his criminal history.

Sky TG24 said the driver had worked for the bus company for 15 years without any employment-related issues.

“Investigators must clarify how the transport company permitted such a delinquent…to drive a bus, especially one carrying children,” said Riccardo De Corato, a Milan provincial official for security.
